Southend M1 2-4 Upminster

Southend mens 1st team travelled to Upminster today to play their 2nd team in the start of the new and different 2020/2021 season. There was a debut for new boy Paul Taylor who also received the man of the match in the game who was solid in defence despite the score line. Southend started off well with a good part of possession in the first 5 minutes until Upminster got a side line hit out side the 23 yard line which was then quickly and fired into the far post of the goal where a Upminster player ran in and his deflection hit the net. Southend replied straight away with switching the ball from the back line of Luke Danbrook ,Paul Taylor and Kevin Johnson up to Tim Chapman on the right wing, who in turn passed to Phil Puncher who made the assist to James Lockwood for his first goal. With the score at 1-1 Southend kept pushing and in turn Upminster got a quick away. With this Captain Ben Aldridge was rushing back to get the fast forward but so was southend keeper John  (Jesus) Chase who rush sliding towards the quick forward, but in turn took out Captain Ben and the forward push the ball into the open goal. Upminsters third goal came from a hard hit short corner where a deflection off of defender Luke Danbrooks stick went into the net. The final minutes of the game had two Southend Defenders Kevin and Luke sent off for bad stick tackles.

Half time arrived and player/coach Lee Styles encouraged everyone to carry on and keep to our plan and go out there and enjoy it, But within the first 5 minutes Upminster scored there 4th and final goal when a man unmarked in the centre of the D scored passed the talented John Chase. Southend pushed and pushed and finally awarded a penalty stroke after a short was deflected off the line from the a Upminster defenders foot. After what seems forever for the keeper to be ready James lockwood stepped up and scored a hard push hitting the back board while the goal keeper dropped to his knees. With the goal Southend seem inspired and had several chances to get another goal but sadly it wasn’t ment to be. Southend goalkeeper John kept the goals to 4 with acoupe of amazing saves at the end of the game.

Southends next game is away again to Braintree men first team at 2:30pm.
